Sound2Picture, Composing Music to Pictures
Sound2Picture is an exciting new multimedia resource that introduces teachers and pupils to the work of a sound designer. It is ideal for teachers to use when teaching about film music. It contains video clips, an extensive audio sample library and other multimedia clips, teaching materials and ideas. It is backed up by a free access website containing teaching notes and other ideas.
Sound2Picture consists of a CDROM and accompanying website. It contains:
- Six specially produced digital video clips (mpeg format) and animations of one minute each minus any sound;
- The same clips with accompanying sound designs composed by Andrew Diey, lead sound designer at Alchemy Audio Lab.
- Nearly 400 MB of high quality audio sample material (.wav files) including the library of sounds that Andrew Diey has used to create the Sound2Picture sound designs. (An additional CD priced at £20/$38 contains a further 500 MB of audio (.wav) samples appropriate for use with this resource);
- Written material that illustrates the working process of a sound designer drawn from observations of Andrew Diey’s work and interview footage;
- Extensive teaching notes designed to assist teachers in the teaching of sound design;
- Links to free web resources and other commercial products that can be used alongside the Sound2Picture materials;
- Free email support to assist you in using Sound2Picture in the classroom and the opportunity to have personal tuition in using this product at your school (at additional cost).
Who is Sound2Picture going to benefit?
The curriculum materials that are included on the CDROM are aimed at introducing pupils at Key Stage 3 to the concepts of sound design and sound2picture. But these materials will also be of interest to pupils studying at GCSE (particularly the film music areas of study) and AS/A2 level. Students in FE and HE may also find the product a useful addition to their courses of study.
Teachers will also benefit from using the high quality materials contained within the Sound2Picture CDROM as an ongoing part of their professional development.
